In Assette, Purpose is a required attribute for every Content Type. It defines the intended audience and business function of the content—whether the content is used for sales and marketing or for client-facing communications. Assigning the correct Purpose is essential to ensure the content aligns with its intended use and integrates properly with Assette’s data and reporting frameworks.
What Is Purpose? #
Purpose indicates whether a piece of content is:
- Sales – Intended for use with internal teams or prospective clients, generally tied to investment products.
- Clients – Intended for use with existing client accounts or portfolios, typically aligned with client-specific data and reporting needs.
This classification helps define how content is created, whom it is for, and which data sources (Product Master or Account Master) it connects to.
Setting and Editing Purpose #
The Purpose field is selected when creating a new Content Type and can be changed at any time by users with the appropriate permissions. This flexibility allows administrators to reclassify content as organizational needs evolve.
- Editable: Yes — Purpose can be changed for any Content Type at any time.
- Options: No — The set of available Purpose values is system-defined and cannot be customized.
Available Purpose Values #
Assette provides two fixed Purpose values:
Sales #
Select Sales when the content is generated for internal or external use in sales and marketing contexts. These materials are generally associated with products defined in the Product Master.
Examples:
- Pitchbooks for prospective clients
- Product strategy factsheets
- Sales presentations
Sales content is not client-specific and typically highlights general product information, investment approaches, or firm capabilities.
Clients #
Select Clients when the content is generated specifically for client accounts or portfolios. These accounts are sourced from the Account Master, and the content usually includes data personalized to the client.
Examples:
- Monthly Client Report
- Quarterly Performance Report
- Client-requested branded templates
Client content is used for ongoing relationship management and formal reporting.
Why Purpose Matters #
Assigning the correct Purpose ensures that the Content Type behaves as expected in downstream processes. It affects:
- Which master data source (Product or Account) is referenced during content generation
- User experience in filtering and categorizing content
- Alignment of business workflows to ensure the right content reaches the right audience
Although Purpose does not change how content is displayed or delivered directly, it influences the context in which content is used and ensures consistency in reporting structures.
