In Assette, Content Types define the structure and classification of content used for client reporting, sales enablement, and internal communication. Each content type specifies how content is created, whether dynamically through templates or uploaded as static documents, and determines how and where the content is accessed and delivered within the platform.
The Content Types Master is the centralized location in Assette for managing all content types. This interface allows users to create, organize, and maintain standardized definitions for each type of content that flows through the system. From this screen, users can define content classes, assign templates, categorize content, and configure delivery targets—ensuring consistency across business functions and enabling efficient content management.
Content Type Configuration #
When creating or editing a content type in the Content Types Master, several key attributes must be defined:
Content Name
This is the display name for the content type, used frequently by sales and client service teams. It serves as the primary identifier for the type of content being generated or uploaded.
Tooltip: “Enter the name used to refer to this content, especially by sales and client service personnel.”
Content Class
The content class categorizes the source and nature of the content. The available options are:
- Dynamic Content: Content generated within Assette using templates.
- Fixed Content: Documents created outside of Assette and uploaded into the system.
- Input Files: Files uploaded to Assette that serve as source inputs for downstream content generation.
Tooltip: “Dynamic Content – content you generate in Assette using templates; Fixed Content – off-Assette produced documents you upload to Assette. Both can be accessed and delivered from Assette.”
Content Group
This optional field allows the content type to be associated with a logical group. For example, the “Client Reports” content group might include both Monthly and Quarterly client reports.
Tooltip: “Select a logical group for the content type. For example, ‘Client Reports’ group may have Monthly Client Report and Quarterly Client Report content types. Note: See Manage Content Groups on top to add/edit content groups.”
Purpose
This defines the business function the content serves:
- Sales: Content intended for use in sales activities, often linked to products configured in the Products Master.
- Client: Content produced for client accounts that are maintained in the Account Master.
Tooltip: “Sales – content can be generated for sales purposes using ‘products’ you define in Assette (in the Products Master); Client – content can be generated for ‘accounts’ (client portfolios) that are sent to Assette (included in the Account Master).”
Template Type
Specifies the type of template that powers the content. Each template is created in Assette and linked to one or more content types. Available template types include:
- Client Provided Template (CPT) (previously labeled DDQ)
- Web Docs
Tooltip: “Select the template type that powers the content type. You create these templates in Assette, and for each template, you assign content types.”
File Name Pattern
Used primarily for content types involving file uploads, this field allows users to define a specific naming pattern to match uploaded files.
Tooltip: “Select the file name pattern matching the files you will be uploading. Go to Manage File Name Patterns…”
Target
Defines where the content type will be made available within Assette. Multiple targets can be selected:
- Content Plans (Batch): Content is included in automated content generation workflows.
- Content Hub (Library): Content is available in the Assette content library for on-demand use.
Tooltip: “Specify where this content type will be available. You may select more than one option.”
Description
Each content type must include a mandatory description. This helps users understand the intended use of the content and aids searchability and usability across the platform.
Tooltip: “Enter a name that describes the content type, especially keeping in mind ease of understanding for sales and client service personnel—when they search to find materials that belong to this content type, this description will show. Explaining in which situations to use this content, and if applicable, even the intended recipients is helpful.”
Interface Details #
In the Content Types Master listing screen, the following changes support clarity and consistency:
- The field previously labeled Display Name is now Content Name, aligning with terminology used in the content creation form.
Each content type entry in the listing can be edited, though users should report any issues accessing the edit screen if functionality is interrupted.
