In Assette, Smart Pages, Smart Shells, and Smart Docs play a crucial role in the creation of client-ready documents. As part of managing content, users often name and rename these documents to better organize and personalize their libraries. However, an incorrect or missing file extension during renaming can cause issues with document recognition and formatting. To maintain document integrity and eliminate manual correction steps, Assette automatically ensures that the correct file extension is appended if it is missing or replaced during the renaming process. This seamless feature helps users save time and avoid errors while keeping files properly structured for optimal compatibility and functionality.
When you rename a Smart Page (PowerPoint), Smart Shell (PowerPoint), or Smart Doc (Word or PowerPoint Data Doc) within Assette, the system now automatically enforces the correct file extension (.pptx for PowerPoint and .docx for Word). This means that even if you accidentally enter an incorrect extension (e.g., “.xlsx” or “.pdf”) or omit the extension entirely, Assette will append the correct extension at the end of the filename.
For example:
- Incorrectly adding “.xlsx” to a PowerPoint file, will automatically append the correct extension. For example, if the user were to name the PowerPoint file “QuarterlyReport.xlsx”, it would be automatically correct to “QuarterlyReport.xlsx.pptx”.
- Naming a Word Data Doc to “Annual Review” (with no extension) will automatically append the correct extension (i.e., “Annual Review.docx”).
This functionality ensures that all Smart Pages, Smart Shells, and Smart Docs remain usable within the Assette platform and are recognized by downstream processes such as file downloads, publishing, and content previews. You no longer need to worry about formatting issues caused by incorrect file types or spend time troubleshooting document errors caused by missing extensions.
