# How to Update Data Block Metadata

*This article covers how to update a Data Block's metadata—only users with Data Block Editor or Data Block Admin are able to perform this action.*

From time to time, if might be necessary to update a Data Block's metadata. The most common scenario for this is when a Data Block's parameters, columns, or output variables have been recently updated. Another common situation is when a Data Block's attribute has been updated. In both cases, updating a Data Block's metadata is simple—click on the blue "Update Metadata" button in the upper right-hand corner of the Data Block's Preview tab. The metadata will automatically be displayed, if available.
