# Creating Smart Shells via Assette’s PowerPoint Editor

*This article assumes that if the Assette PowerPoint Editor has been installed. For more information on how to install the Assette Editor, see [Installing the Assette PowerPoint Editor](https://learn.assette.com/docs/installing-assette-editor/). Once installed, Assette Editor does not need to be installed a second time.*

A [Smart Shell](https://learn.assette.com/docs/smart-shells-overview/) refers to any fabricated table, chart, or text that can be populated with dynamic data within Assette. All Smart Shells utilize Data Blocks and Data Objects to surface data, settings, and options from Assette's back-end and make them usable for business users. Since Data Objects may be used in different contexts a Smart Shell, by definition, is referring to a specific usage of a Data Object (e.g., a Top 10 Holdings table). For more information about Smart Shells, please see [Smart Shell Overview](https://learn.assette.com/docs/smart-shells-overview/).

To create a Smart Shell via the Assette PowerPoint Editor, open a new Smart Page or open an existing. Begin fabricating a new (or existing) table, chart, text, or image. Once created, select the item to be uploaded to the library and then select "Upload Shells" from the Assette Ribbon in the upper left-hand corner.

*Note that to create and upload a new Smart Shell via the editor, the Smart Shell in question does not need to be a fabricated object (e.g., you can technically upload a static paragraph), though doing so largely defeats the purpose of Smart Shells.*

Next, the user will be presented with a pop-up asking the user to name the Smart Shell and assign the Smart Shell a Primary [Bucket](https://learn.assette.com/docs/attribute-master-overview/#what-are-buckets). Finally, press save, and the Smart Shell will be loaded to Assette's [Smart Shell Library](https://learn.assette.com/docs/smart-shells-overview/)— the Smart Shell name may include any letters, numbers, or whitespace character, including special characters.

Should the user try to reupload, If the user enters a name of an existing Smart Shell, they will be asked to choose another name.
